What file formats are supported by PixEdit, PixView and PixJet 2000?

Support for over 100 different file formats is currently available. For you convenience we have included a downloadable and printable PDF file on our site, listing all supported file formats. You can access the list here. After opening the list in Acrobat Reader, a quick way to find a certain format would be to use the program's "Find" command. Please consult Acrobat Reader's Help file system for directions for using the "Find" command.

What scanners are supported by PixEdit?

PixEdit supports direct control of high quality scanners from Contex, Colortrac, Vidar Systems, Xerox, OCE and others. One advantage of capturing a document directly into PixEdit is that verification can be done immediately after scanning or even while scanning. In addition to direct control of many popular large format scanners, PixEdit also supports TWAIN, the open industry standard.

· CONTEX / OCE / CALCOMP
· COLORTRAC
· VIDAR
· XEROX 7336
· XEROX 7356
· XEROX 7346
· NETWORK SCANNING ( Xerox, Oce and others)
· TWAIN All scanners and cameras shipped with Twain drivers or third party Twain drivers interfaced to a wide range of scanners. Examples : Fujitsu 3091, 3096/7G(x) with Twain drivers from CFM and Avision, HP, Microtek scanners etc. etc. PixEdit supports all compressed transfer modes defined within Twain, and takes full advantage of hardware image compressors if present in the scanner.
· RICOH IS410 , IBM 2456(001), Bell & Howell 4000 and compatibles.

What is Docwash™ ?

Some documents may prove impossible to scan with acceptable quality. The Docwash function is a tool for manual thresholding for very dirty or difficult documents. Modern scanners from Vidar, Xerox, Contex, OCE and others have built-in automatic thresholding logic, resulting in high quality monochrome scans. However, very old or faded documents may still be difficult to scan. For such difficult documents, using the Docwash tool may be the only solution to this problem.

What is Accupix™ ?

Digitizing an exact coordinate in a high zoom factor is difficult or impossible with traditional raster editing technology. This technology only provides a pixel-step size equal to the current zoom factor in the main window. Accupix™, however, features an automatic step-reduction mechanism for single pixel accuracy even at very high zoom factors in the main window.

Optionally, PixEdit may issue a tick sound when the automatic reduction gear switches to pixel accuracy during high zoom factor digitizing. In manual mode, the SPACE key must be held down when you want pixel accuracy in high zoom factors.

In automatic mode, the cursor is slowed down by the factor used in the Blowup window or by a specified factor when you move the cursor slowly. Get more information here.

What is Smoothpan™ ?

The SmoothPan feature gives you a more realistic feel when panning around the document. Panning from one position to another is animated, giving the impression of a mechanical "move operation" complete with acceleration and braking phases. This feature makes it much more easy to navigate in large format documents. However, this technology requires that your PC is equipped with a lot of RAM and a fast processor. You may therefore want to disable this feature for Color Images. The "smoothness" may also be configured by using the speed option.

What is Thumbtip™ ?

The ThumbTip feature in PixEdit pops up a preview image in the Paste menu, the LRU ( Last Recently used Files), the Open dialog as well as when the cursor is placed above a Thumbnail in the Thumbnal bar. Document specific information such as Image Size, File Size, Bpp, Resolution, and Number of Pages are also displayed below the image.

What is Vectorizing?

To process a scanned document in your CAD system, the raster document must be converted to geometric descriptions in a format readable by the CAD program. This process is called vectorizing. Due to limitations in today’s vectorizing algorithms and machine resources, the output quality can be expected to be lower than the original scanned image. Because of this, the quality of the original scanned image has to be high in order to obtain acceptable vector quality. Read more about vectorizing.

Does the uninstall option "Remove" in the installation program remove all PixEdit components and settings?

No. some settings are stored in Registry, so that a new installation can start up with the same settings as the previous version of PixEdit. To remove all settings, please use the following procedure:

1) Insert the PixEdit CD ROM

2) Cancel the installation procedure.

3) Manually browse to the folder x:\msizap ( where x: denotes the CD ROM Drive letter)

4) Run MsiZapPe5.bat

Note that this procedure is valid for revision 5.2.2 and earlier. This procedure will clear all settings and all files installed. ( Uninstall on the CD does *not* clear all settings since an upgrade may be installed later on, keeping some settings)
